About Me

My photo
Timmins, Ontario, Canada
Hi Fishing Fans. Welcome to my fishing blogger page hope you enjoyed it. I'm from Northern Ontario Canada. I love to fish and I try to spend most of my time fishing. I got started when I was young from my father. My first fish I caught was pan fish since then I was hooked. Now I fish for anything that bites my line. One day I wanna do a fishing tournament in the winter or summer. I like using plastic worms and spoons. My favorite color for a lure is yellow cause walleye likes yellow. But I like trying other kinds of lures to. I meet Italo Labignan, man i was so happy that I saw him. Now I wanna meet Bob & Wayne Izumi. The lakes I fish most at are Mattagami River, Nighthawk Lake and Keefer Lake. Ok that was a little bit of me about my fishing life. Thanks for stopping by.

About the rock bass

Hi

Here is something I been working on for a long time. I been reading about Rock Bass. And here is something I put up together. I like catching this little guys the Rock Bass. Hope you Enjoy it and thanks.

About the rock bass:

 Identifying Characteristics:

Small, very deep bodied fish
Back and upper sides are brown to olive, with golden tints, and there are often dark saddles
Large, red eye
Regular rows of spots on the side in adults
Dorsal fin has 10-13 spines
Six anal fin spines
Mouth is large and extends backwards to below the middle of the eye

Distribution/Habitat

Rock bass prefer the cool waters of lakes and slow-moving streams, and are often found over rocky bottoms. They are often found in groups with other sunfishes and basses, including smallmouth bass and pumpkinseed.
Rock bass can be found throughout southern and central Ontario and the Great Lakes, as well as portions of northwestern and northeast Ontario.

Angling Tips:

Rock bass are excellent targets for young anglers because they are aggressive feeders and take bait readily. They are most active in the summer and will bite all day.  Strong sunlight will force them into covered areas so look for them near docks, sunken wood and over hanging trees.
These fish are easily caught from shore and are accessible to most anglers.  They will feed all day and can provide excellent action for children. And for adult as well. Take the family out.
Rock bass spend most of their time in a relatively small area. In late fall, they become nearly dormant, feeding very little. Rock bass are small so light line is best, however, their larger mouths allow for larger baits than for sunfish. Catch rock bass using a variety of techniques, including dangling live bait from a small slip bobber or what ever kind of bobber you have, fly-fishing, casting small lures or even slow-trolling or drifting.

How Can You Tell If There Good Eating:

If the rock bass is not pale or has black moles on it or if it has worms. That's not good eating.
If it shows no signs of that then your ok.

Common Baits:

Small plugs/small crankbaits
Small spinners
Small jigs
Small spoons
Panfish rigs
Or consider using live bait such as small minnows, worms or insect, or add natural bait to an artificial lure to  make it more appealing.

Type Of Line, Rod And Reel:

And use light line 2-6 lbs, a light action rod and light action reel.

Here are the baits I use for the rock bass.

 Tight lines and happy fishing.

It was the long weekend In September. I went to my best friends cottage. We want to go fishing but the boat broke down. So I fished off the dock and caught only one walleye I was happy that I got something. I caught it with a Northland Fishing Tackle FISH-FRY MINNOW SPOON - 1/16 oz Glow Perch.  And it was the first time I ever used that lure.  Other then then that I had fun fishing.  I was at Keefer Lake Ontario Canada.

Tight Lines And Happy Fishing.
